Obituary

Betty Joyce Rose Mullins, 87 years young, passed quietly in her sleep early Sunday morning March 9th after a long life of relatively good health.

The daughter of Steve and Emma Rose, Betty was a native of Haysi, Virginia. Through her marriage to John Mullins, Betty lived most of her life in Clintwood on the Pound River before relocating to Bedford, Virgina later in life to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Betty returned to the family farm in January 2021 to live out her last years before death.

Betty will be remembered as an exceptional cook and baker, an engaged member of the Philadelphia Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, and an active and caring grandmother.


Betty is preceded in death by her husband, John C. Mullins; by her siblings Sharon Rose Gilbert, Fayne Rose, Carol Rose, Fern Rose Wright, and Ruth Rose Payne; and by her great grandson Clay Sarver.

Betty is survived by daughter Tammera Powers, granddaughters Lesley (Dale) Coates, Amanda (Kevin) Smith and Amber (Adam) Sarver; by son Christopher (Kim) Mullins and grandchildren Kyle, Emily, Sean and Christie Mullins; by Betty's siblings Kevin Gilbert, Kelly (Engie) Rose, Scotty (Shiela) Rose, and Roger (Pat) Rose; and by six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services conducted by Pastor Wayne Rogers will be held at the Clintwood Funeral Home on Saturday March 15th at 11 AM with music provided by Grant Belcher.
