Betty Jean Monahan age 94, passed away Sunday Feb. 9, 2020, at her home, with her loving family by her side. She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, a devout Christian and founding member of the Dwale Community Church for 70 years. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Mrs. Monahan is preceded in death by her parents James R. and Maggie Artrip, her husband, James Thomas (Tom) Monahan, 1 granddaughter Jennifer Monahan, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Survivors include her sons; William Robert Monahan and wife Jeannie, Eddie Monahan and wife Vickie all of Clintwood; 1 daughter Emma Jean Monahan  of Clintwood; 1 brother Walter Bud Artrip and wife Mary of Raleigh, North Carolina;  several grandchildren, Kim Deal (Nathan),  Chandra Johnson (John), Megan Monahan, Holly Kiser, Robbie Monahan (Katie),  Hannah Deaton (Daniel),  Jarrod Monahan (Meg) and Tiffany Yates (Shan); eighteen great grandchildren; special nephew Bobby Joe Phipps; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Special thanks to caregivers, the Home Nursing Staff, Rhonda McComas, Dr. Rimon Ibrahim and staff.

Funeral services for Betty Monahan will be conducted at 2 PM Fri. Feb. 14, 2020 in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Austin and Darrell Milgrim officiating. Burial will follow in the Artrip Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robbie Monahan, Jarrod Monahan, John Johnson, Bernard Mullins, Doug Justice, Lynn Stanley, Joe Fannin and Roger Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be men of the Dwale Community Church. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thurs. evening at the Clintwood Funeral Home, with a song service at 7 PM.
