Obituary

Avery Ray Carty age 67 passed away Sat. Oct. 21, 2017 at the James Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center, Johnson City, TN. He was a 1969 graduate of Clintwood High School and a veteran of the US Army having served in the Vietnam War. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith serving as a minister for many years and was a retired mechanic from the Wise County School System.  He is preceded in death by his father, Larkin Carty, wife Linda Carty, two brothers, Mickey Carty and Gary Carty and a grandson Peyton Carty.

Survivors include his wife Shelia Davis Carty of Coeburn, VA, mother, Deloras Carty of Coeburn, VA; one son Ray Carty and wife Sharon, Clinchco, VA; one daughter Melody Carty, Tacoma, WA; five brothers, Sammy Carty and wife Gayle, Coeburn, VA, Elmer Carty and wife Opal, Bluff City, TN , Freddie Carty and wife Beverly, Coeburn, VA, Troy Carty and wife Tammy, Kingsport, TN, Bobby Carty and wife Terri, Ocala FL , and one sister Zelma McKenzie and husband Earl, Coeburn, VA;two step-daughters Heather Deel and husband Keith, Crystal Barton and husband Adam all of Haysi, VA; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.


Funeral services for Avery Ray Carty will be conducted at 1 PM Tues. Oct. 24, 2017 at Rachels Chapel Church with Willie Stanley , Bill Knoskie, David Kilgore, Gary Stanley and Wayne Keith officiating. Burial will follow at the Kennedy Cemetery, Hiram Ridge Road, Pallbearers will be family and friends. Military Honors conducted by VFW 8979 and US Army National Guard Honors team.    The family will receive friends after 5 PM Monday evening at the Rachels Chapel Church with a service at 7 PM.
