James Albert Large, age 86, passed away at his home on Powers Branch on February 17, 2017. The son of a coal miner, he was born March 31, 1930 in a coal camp on Toms Creek. He was the son of Rev. Richard "Rit" Large and Bessie Marshall Large. Baptized in 1958 he soon joined Lick Fork Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was formerly employed for Clinchfield Coal Company and Beth-Elkhorn Corporation as a miner and preparation plant worker.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Vonda Hughes, Pearl Hughes, Faye Powers and Janice Vanover; brothers, Trigg Large, Thurman Large and Lewis Large and father and mother-in-law, H.B. "Brack" and Barbara Powers.
He is survived by his dedicated wife of 68 years, Norma Powers Large; daughter, Cathy Stanley; sons, Lanny (Pat) Large and Ronnie (Jeannie) Large; grandchildren, Craig Stanley, Chris (Renee) Stanley, Daniel (Britta) Large, Terra Large and Annabel Large; great- grandchildren Noah Taylor, Belle Kelley, Avie Stanley, Katie Large and Aubree Large; sister, Alene (Harold) Lambert and brother, Bill (Mary) Large.
Family will receive visitors at Clintwood Funeral Home 5:30 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2017 with the funeral to follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Allen Viers and Rev. Greg Cyphers officiating.
Graveside service will be at Temple Hill Memorial Gardens on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Anyone wishing to attend meet at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be sons, grandsons and great-grandson. Honorary pallbearers will granddaughters and great-granddaughters, Emory Browning, Tim Hamilton, Bennie Vanover and MikeYates.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St Jude's and Dickenson County Food Bank.
