Agnes Yates Salyer, 79, died at her home on Caney Ridge on Wednesday, January 16, 2008. She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and a member of the Longs Fork Old Regular Baptist Church. Her parents Sylvan and Dacie Stanley Yates, and husband Foster Bishop Salyer preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Greg Salyer, Abingdon; one daughter, Carolyn Rose, Coeburn; three brothers Theo Yates, A.L. Yates, both of Clintwood, and Phillip Lee of Big Stone Gap; one sister, Zella Mullins, Clintwood; her grandson and his wife, W. Wade and Kelly Rose; great grandchildren, Allison, Nicholas, and Jordan. Funeral services for Agnes Yates Salyer will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, January 18, 2008 from the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Theo Yates and A.L. Yates ministers officiating. The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Friday at the funeral home prior to services. Additional graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Yates Family Cemetery on Caney Ridge. Active pallbearers will be Palmer, Mike, and Terry Yates, Jeff and Tim Yates, Jack, Ronnie and Sylvan Mullins, and Johnny Max Stanley. Honorary pallbearer will be Carroll Ray Baker. Family and friends wishing to follow in procession to the cemetery should meet at the funeral home no later than 10:30 AM Saturday morning.
