Biography

Lema Newberry Delaney, age 90, passed away at her home on June 29, 2010. She was the daughter of Stephen and Marie Newberry. Although she was orphaned at the age of two, Lema had a strong sense of family. “You young’uns are all I’ve got,” was a phrase she could be heard saying many times, over the years. Lema provided a generous home for her children, grandchildren, and at many times, friends of her children as they were growing up. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, fortitude, and loyalty to family. She was most blessed to be survived by all nine of her children.

Lema was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Marie Newberry; her grandparents who raised her, John and Geneva Artrip, and John and Lydia Newberry; and her husband, Fenden Delaney.

Lema is survived by her four loving daughters, who so lovingly cared for her in her final weeks; Phyllis Anderson and husband Jack, Alta Edwards and husband Roger, Gail Deel and husband Curtis, Debbie Powers and husband Bill; five sons; Ked Delaney and wife Sue, Charlie Delaney and wife Nina, Mac Delaney, Ronnie Delaney and wife Carolyn, and Johnny Delaney. Grandchildren; Rayetta Malone, Louise Remey, Geneva Powers, Angela Rakes, Greg Delaney, Rebecca Nelson, Scott Anderson, Rob Anderson, Mandy Delaney, Marie Stancovich, Audrey Salazar, Laura Deel-Stanley, Lydia Blevins, April Delaney, Ashley Delaney, Niki Powers, Shane Powers, Joey Salyers, Heather Freeman, Joey Johnson, and Tim Elkins; twenty-five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, July 1st, at 6:00 pm with Brother Greg Stanley officiating. A private burial for the family will be held Friday, July 2nd at 11:00 am at the Delaney Family Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
