Shirley Darlene Garrett, age 60, passed away Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee. She was born December 14th, 1949 in Norton, Virginia. She was a lifelong resident of Clintwood and a five year cancer survivor.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Virginia Garrett of Clintwood; her maternal grandparents Gene and Ora Wright of Clintwood; her paternal grandparents Oscar O. and Augusta Maine Garrett of Bristol.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Brandy L. and Jason B. Taylor of Clintwood; her brother Robert E. “Bobby” Garrett of Clintwood; two grandchildren Emma Kate Taylor and Garrett Ryder Taylor of Clintwood; two nieces Katy Lynn Garrett and Amy Ruth Garrett both of Proctorville, Ohio and a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service at Clintwood-Colley Funeral Home will be held to honor her memory on Wednesday, March 3rd at 7:00 PM. Those wishing to pay their respects to the family and reflect upon Darlene’s life are welcome. In lieu of flowers the family would like to request donations in her honor to be made to either the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee, 280 Steeles Road, Bristol, Tennessee 37620 or Southwest Virginia Cancer Center in Norton, Virginia.
